Grand Central Terminal is home base for the 40th Anniversary celebration of Earth Day in New York. Earth Day New York kicks off April 19th with a week of activities that include events both inside and outside the historic train station. Here is some of what is planned:
- a six-day indoor EarthFair in the terminal’s at Vanderbilt Hall, April 19th to April 24th. Exhibits focus on future technologies and sustainable fashion around the theme of “The City of the Future”. Be sure to check out the Toshiba exhibit, which is streaming live video from the event to Twitter. Toshiba also is giving out Camilo Twitcams to select attendees uploading their own “Be the E” video messages.
- a two-day outdoor festival on Vanderbilt Avenue, April 23rd-24th. This event also supports the Earth Day New York E Campaign, That’s an ongoing initiative to make every day Earth Day, and includes a film featuring celebrities such as Matthew Modine, Adrian Grenier and Deepak Chopra.
Let’s give public thanks to Earth Day in New York sponsors, which include the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Toshiba, Home Depot and Con Edison, Planet Green, The New York Post, Metro NY and Treehugger.
There’s a wonderful hideaway in Grand Central Station that’s unknown to most of us who live here and even fewer visitors. It’s a bar and restaurant called the Campbell Apartment, and it is one of the listings in my new travel guidebook to the Big Apple, Peaceful Places in New York City.
