Learn how the Inupiat Eskimos have lived and hunted in the Arctic region of Alaska for 5,000 years at a free lecture at Alaska House in Soho. Whales are central to their lifestyle and survival as a primary source of food, building materials, and barter goods, and also of art, legends and cultural identity. It is a slideshow and lecture presentation by Bill Hess, photographer and author of Gift of the Whale: The Inupiat Bowhead Hunt, A Sacred Tradition. The program is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, April one. Please email ellaine@AlaskaHouse.org that you plan to attend. Alaska House is at 109 Mercer Street, between Prince and Spring Streets.
